Refashioning and Restyling: Creative Alterations for a Sustainable Wardrobe
Refashioning and Restyling with Claire: A Creative Alterations Workshop for a Sustainable Wardrobe
Sick of seeing clothes languishing in your wardrobe that no longer fit or suit your style? Instead of tossing them (or leaving them taking up space for another year), why not breathe new life into those forgotten garments? Join us for a hands-on workshop that will teach you how to alter, repair, and upcycle your least-worn pieces.
Meet Claire, Your Expert Tutor
Claire is no ordinary seamstress—she’s a couture designer, stylist, and seamstress with over 28 years of experience in the fashion industry.
Having graduated from the prestigious London College of Fashion in 2008, Claire has since dressed everyone from royalty to musicians, actresses, and DJs. Now settled in the beautiful Cotswolds, she runs her own successful business specialising in wedding dresses, mother-of-the-bride outfits, and occasion wear. But Claire’s passion goes beyond bespoke garments—she’s a firm advocate for sustainable fashion, believing that instead of always buying new, we can find beauty and individuality in what we already own.
Why Up-cycling Your Wardrobe Makes Sense
In a world where fast fashion dominates, it’s easy to fall into the habit of buying inexpensive, throwaway clothing. But this approach not only harms the environment and supports exploitative industries, but in cheap, ill-fitting garments, you’ll probably not look that good either.
Here are some benefits of upcycling:
- Reduce Waste: By transforming old or second-hand garments, you save them from ending up in landfills, contributing to a more sustainable future.
- Save Money: Instead of constantly purchasing new clothes, refashioning helps you make the most of what you already own, cutting down on unnecessary spending.
- Unleash Creativity: Each garment you upcycle becomes a one-of-a-kind piece that reflects your personal style. You can experiment with fabrics, embellishments, and fit to create something truly unique.
- Learn New Skills: By learning how to alter clothes yourself, you gain valuable skills that can be used time and time again, saving you from relying on fast fashion for every wardrobe refresh.
