New Quilt Workshop

We are so excited to announce a new quilt course with Janine from Fat Quarter Quilting! Learn to make this patchwork quilt top, building your skills each week.

Join us over 5 weekly sessions to make this quilt top, you will need to do some homework to get finished but you will learn how to make each area of the quilt with guidance from Janine from Fat Quarter Quilting who is also the designer of this quilt.

Week 1: Appliqué (9 Blocks)

This week, we’ll dive into the basics of appliqué using Bondaweb (or similar). Learn how to trace and cut out your fabric pieces and apply them using the raw edge appliqué technique. By the end of this week, you’ll have completed 9 unique appliqué blocks.

Week 2: Cornerstones (8 Blocks)

We’ll explore how to create half-square triangle cornerstones for the quilt’s borders. Learn to measure and cut fabric accurately and incorporate these cornerstones with sashing to border your main block from Week 1.

Week 3: Triangle Block (8 Blocks)

This week features the most intricate block in our pattern. We’ll guide you through each step to master the triangle block, ensuring precise cutting and piecing.

Week 4: Flying Geese (24 Units)

This week is all about flying geese! Learn the classic technique to make 24 flying geese units. We’ll also start assembling the quilt top by joining your appliqué blocks from Week 1 and triangle blocks from

Week 5: Piano Key Border

In our final week, we will learn the strip-piecing technique to create a stunning piano key border. Once your border is complete, you’ll attach it to the appliqué panels and triangle blocks, finishing the quilt top.

Once you have finished the quilt top you can either quilt on your domestic machine – we can support you with this. Alternatively you could take advantage of Janine’s long arm quilting services

A materials list will be provided on booking. 

Every session will be held in the sewing studio upstairs at Stitching Kitchen, we will stop for a cuppa and cake half way through.  

FAQs

What if I can’t make one of the weeks?

If you are away for one of the weeks for this course – don’t worry!  We have step by step instructions for this quilt and each week is a different skill and part of the quilt. 

If you are not around for a week Janine can talk you through the stage you miss during another class. If you still need a bit more support you are welcome to pop into the studio for some extra hands on support. 

How much fabric will I need to make the quilt?

We will send a full list of requirements – in total the quilt takes 5 meters of fabric
