Our new online course : Floral Free Motion Subscription

Over the last couple of months we have launched a new product and a new teaching method for me!  Back in the spring I started doodling with my sewing machine and thinking about how we could reach more makers and share my free motion stitching skills beyond a travelling distance of Brackley.

During this time I was also guest speaker for a subscription box for makers who are sent pre-cut children’s clothes to make.  I did a demonstration on how to set up your sewing machine for free motion stitching and also helped them with some simple designs which might make a great feature for the back of a denim jacket - which was their project in the subscription that month.  You can find out more about the children’s clothes subscription box from THIS MUMMY SEWS

My initial thought was to design some floral panels and use bondaweb so that everyone could create the images I had planned.  However - if you have worked with me that is simply not how I work!  A more freestyle approach was needed, sharing my love of using adhesive sparingly to ‘pin’ down the fabric scraps to then stitch into. 

Once I had a plan of the type and style of the designs the next big decision was how frequently to run the demonstration classes - and also how many designs could I create and deliver in a year.  I settled for 6 designs over the year with a monthly online session - one month a demonstration of running through the instructions and putting the design together.  Like a virtual  classroom and the following month a show and tell and questions and answers session.  That way everyone has time to make their panel and there is a finish date (some accountability).  Also having a date in the calendar for making seems like the best way to treat yourself each month. 

So we have just had our first live online demonstration session - a couple of people joined in live and the rest of the subscription members watched later - I can’t wait to see how they have got on. 

Every 2 months the box includes the patterns, printed instructions carefully curated textile treasures and a reel of embroidery thread.    Your first box also includes  Prym aqua glue markers.

If you already have a stash of fabrics available you also have the option to have a digital only version of the subscription where you will have the option to download the pattern, instructions and of course join in all the fun on the live sessions - just no parcel through the door! 

This month we created roses, I can’t wait to reveal what the January project will be !!!
