Sewing workshop - Add Side Seam Pockets to existing Skirt or Dress

Do you wish your favourite clothes had pockets? Learn how to add in-seam pockets to an existing garment in this practical hands on sewing workshop with Hannah.

What you will learn/achieve

• What types of garments which are best suited to adding in seam pockets to
• how to un-pick a side seam without cutting through your garment
• setting the pocket in the right postiion
• getting a great finish with understitching and closing the seam

We can practice with a mock-up garment and pocket pattern pieces using fabric from the stitching kitchen stash.   Then we can move on to added side seam pockets to a garment you have brought with you - we have plently of light weight cotton fabrics in the shop you can choose from to create perfect in-seam pockets.

What's included

Tuition: full instruction and support in a small class (maximum of 6).

Use of our Pfaff and Janome demo machines in Stitching Kitchen's fully equipped studio.

Tea and cake.

We have PDF instructions on the process which will be forwarded to your inbox after the workshop.   

You’ll leave with the skills and confidence to add pockets to suitable garments in your own wardrobe — a brilliant way to make your clothes even more practical!

Attendee instructions: 

Bring along 1 or 2  clean garments which you would like to add pockets to.

Your sewing machine if you wish

Please note that this workshop is held in our light and spacious first floor studio at Stitching Kitchen, which is accessible by stairs.   

About your tutor

Hannah has been crafting since she was a child, she loves textile art, making with fabric, thread and fibre. She teaches and shares her passion and skills in textile art, felt making and also dressmaking and quilting.
